1. Where can I get a copy of the Public Health Code as it applies to Recreational Therapy?

3. Where can I go to take a class to meet the requirements of the Public Health Code?

4. Am I certified?

  • The State of Connecticut does not require nor offer certification to work in the field of Therapeutic Recreation.  To work in Long Term Care you must meet the requirements of the Public Health Code, which are outlined in section 19-13-D8(t)r.
  • Licensing - the act of giving formal permission by a constituted authority to do something.
  • Certification - refers to the act of attesting to the qualifications of someone or something.

6. I joined my local Region am I a member of the State Organization, CATRD, Inc.?
  • Membership to CATRD, Inc. is separate from local Region membership. 
  • With the State association you receive a membership card signed by the current President. 
  • The perks of membership and a Membership Application Form are available on the Membership page.
  • Each local region has their own membership application.
  • You can contact your Region Representative to obtain the form.

7. Why should I join?

  • CATRD, Inc. offers many benefits to its members.  These include: discounts on the Spring and Fall Seminars and the June Conference, Clock Hours and/or CEU's (continuing education units) at Seminars and Conference, a newsletter 3 times a year, use of the Survey Hot Line, use of the Job Bank Service, an Entertainment Directory, Networking with other Professionals, Legislative Advocacy and Government Relations, Educational Growth and Development, Dottie Mullen Grant Program, Volunteer of the Year Award, Polly Avery Life Time Achievement Award and this Informational Web site.


8. How do I get information about my Region meetings?  Who do I contact? What Region am I in?

  • For information concerning your region contact your Region Representative listed in the Region section. 


9. Why should I attend region meetings if I am a member of CATRD, Inc.?

  • The information from the Board of Directors meeting is presented at the Region meetings via the Region Representatives.
  • It is one way to keep current and abreast of the happenings in the field of Therapeutic Recreation. 
  • It is also your opportunity to voice your opinions and concerns that will be brought before the Board of Directors meeting by your Region Representative. 
  • The Regions are the backbone of CATRD, for it is through them that we can communicate with our membership. 
  • Region meetings also an excellent opportunity for professional networking.
